A Message from Nintendo President Furukawa:

Greetings, this is Furukawa. To guarantee seamless delivery of the “Nintendo Switch 2” to our valued customers, we secured a substantial inventory of components in advance and ramped up production. On April 2, we unveiled comprehensive details about the “Nintendo Switch 2” and launched a lottery-based sales application via the My Nintendo Store.
The response was overwhelming—within Japan alone, we received approximately 2.2 million applications, far surpassing our initial projections and exceeding the number of units available for delivery by June 5.
With deep regret, we must inform you that when lottery results are announced tomorrow, April 24, a significant number of applicants will unfortunately be unsuccessful.
To simplify the process for those not selected in the first round, we will automatically enroll them in the second lottery, eliminating the need for reapplications. However, even with additional units allocated for the second round, we recognize that demand will still outpace supply. Despite our meticulous preparations, we sincerely apologize for falling short of meeting everyone’s expectations.
To address this unprecedented demand, we are intensifying our production efforts. Starting tomorrow, April 24, major gaming retailers across Japan—both physical and online—will gradually open reservations or lottery-based sales for the “Nintendo Switch 2” (specific details will be announced by each retailer).
Meanwhile, the My Nintendo Store will continue sales post-launch (further arrangements to be shared later). We remain committed to collaborating with retailers to ensure steady shipments and deliver the “Nintendo Switch 2” to as many players as swiftly as possible.
Rest assured, production and shipments of the “Nintendo Switch 2” will continue at full scale in the coming months. While it may take time to fulfill all orders, we humbly ask for your patience and continued support during this exciting launch period. Thank you for your enthusiasm and understanding.
I had no idea the demand would be so high, but I guess Nintendo fans are really eager for the new Switch. The lottery system seems fair enough, though I hope they can find a way to get it into more hands soon. It’s good to hear they prepared a lot of components ahead of time.
Thank you for your comment! You’re right—Nintendo fans are incredibly passionate, and the response has been amazing to see. I agree that it would be great if they could make the Switch 2 more widely available soon. It’s impressive how well-prepared they were with the components, and I’m sure they’re working hard to meet demand!
I can’t believe they had to implement a lottery system for such high demand! It’s smart that they secured components early, but I hope future updates improve availability. Do you think other regions will have similar issues at launch?
Absolutely, the lottery system was unexpected but understandable given the massive interest. Securing components early is definitely a smart move, and I agree that improving availability should be a priority moving forward. While it’s hard to predict, other regions might face similar challenges, but Nintendo is usually good at scaling production based on feedback from initial markets. Thanks for sharing your thoughts—always great to hear reader perspectives!
I had no idea the demand for the new Switch was that high! The lottery system seems like a fair way to handle it, but 2.2 million applicants? That’s insane. I hope they can find ways to make more units available soon.
Absolutely, the response has been incredible! The lottery system is definitely helping manage the initial rush fairly. I agree, producing enough units will be key moving forward. Thanks for sharing your thoughts—let’s hope supply catches up soon!
I had no idea the demand for Switch 2 was that high, especially just from lottery entries in Japan. It’s smart to manage supply like this though, even if it’s frustrating for us eager buyers. I hope future updates or restocks can handle more units at once!
The lottery system seems like an interesting way to handle high demand, but I hope they can scale it up quickly. It’s impressive that they managed to produce so many units in such a short notice. I wonder how the features of Nintendo Switch 2 compare to the original. Hopefully, the updates will address some of the previous console’s limitations.
I completely agree! The lottery system is definitely unique, and it’s impressive to see how quickly they ramped up production. As for the new features, I’m excited to see how they improve on the original while addressing past limitations. Thanks for sharing your thoughts—this is such an interesting conversation!
