Colorful CVN X870 ARK FROZEN V14 Motherboard Review: High-Performance Gaming & RGB Features

Colorful has recently teased its next-generation CVN motherboard series based on the AMD X870 chipset, and now the first model—the CVN X870 ARK FROZEN V14—has officially debuted on Colorful’s website. This motherboard introduces Colorful’s self-developed first-generation GPU quick-release mechanism, featuring an “ON or OFF” toggle switch located below the memory slots. Colorful touts this proprietary design as “extremely safe.”

The CVN X870 ARK FROZEN V14 adopts a standard ATX form factor with a striking white PCB and frost-themed heatsink armor. It boasts a 14+2+1-phase power delivery system, equipped with 80A DrMOS components and dual 8-pin EPS CPU power connectors.

For memory, the board offers four DDR5 slots supporting up to 192 GB (48 GB per slot max) and overclocking up to 8000 MHz.

In terms of PCIe configuration, it includes:
– One reinforced PCIe 5.0 x16 slot (CPU-direct, featuring the quick-release function)
– One full-length PCIe 4.0 x4 slot (sharing lanes with the third M.2 slot)
– One PCIe 4.0 x1 slot

Storage options consist of:
– Two CPU-direct PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slots
– One chipset-controlled PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 slot (conflicts with the second PCIe slot)
– Four SATA III 6 Gbps ports

Networking is handled by a Realtek RTL8126-CG chip for 5GbE wired connectivity, alongside a MediaTek MT7925 wireless module supporting Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. Audio is powered by a Realtek ALC1220 codec.

Rear I/O includes:
– HDMI 2.0
– DisplayPort 1.2
– Multiple USB-A ports
– One USB-C port with 40 Gbps bandwidth and DP Alt Mode
– One 5GbE RJ45 port
– Dual Wi-Fi antenna connectors
– One S/PDIF optical output
